Understanding compounded GLP-1s

Why approval status and pharmacy sourcing deserve a closer look.

Compounded is a distinct category

Compounded drugs are not FDA-approved. The FDA does not review compounded drugs for safety, effectiveness or quality before marketing in the same way as approved products.

Know what you are being prescribed

Ask why a compounded medicine is needed for your particular circumstances, which pharmacy supplies it, and how instructions are communicated. The FDA has raised concerns about dosing errors and unapproved products.

Check current guidance

Compounding rules and product availability can change. Consult the FDA’s current guidance and your licensed clinician rather than relying on an advertisement or a price comparison.
